Oklahoma City, OK (January 25, 2022) – TLC Garden Centers in Oklahoma City recently presented officials with the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center a donation check totaling $54,209 following TLC’s “Plant it Pink” sales event last October.

“I can’t believe how much money was donated from one single day,” says Elizabeth Wellberg, PhD, breast cancer researcher at the Stephenson Cancer Center.

“We are thrilled to support breast cancer research in Oklahoma and we’re thankful for our loyal customers who supported our efforts during “Plant it Pink” day, said Frank McDonald, president of TLC Garden Centers.

The “Plant it Pink” event has become an annual tradition for TLC, held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On that day, TLC donates all proceeds from both of its retail stores.

“We all have family and friends who have dealt with breast cancer, so it is really important for us to do something locally,” said Brandi Mosley, greenhouse manager for TLC Garden Centers.

Breast cancer hit close to home for the TLC Garden Centers family in 2018 when Katie Keyser, whose husband was a TLC employee, was diagnosed with the disease.

“TLC rallied behind us in a huge way,” Keyser said.

Keyser, who now works as a volunteer coordinator for the Stephenson Cancer Center, says the funds donated by TLC Garden Centers will be used by Stephenson Cancer Center scientists to further cancer research in Oklahoma.

“It’s overwhelming. Probably the kindest gesture I have ever seen,” she says.
