North Haven Gardens is wasting no time getting back on its feet following a devastating tornado that all but leveled the Dallas garden center. The nearly 70-year-old operation is already underway with site evaluation and conceptual layouts and plans to be fully rebuilt and operational within a year.
The IGC asked patrons to send thoughts on what they love and what they’d like to see improved, and customers have eagerly offered their recommendations about improvements and hopes for the future store, says General Manager Cody Hoya.
Generally, the nearly 70-year-old operation has seen a tremendous outpouring of support.
“As a small, family-owned business that’s been part of this neighborhood for nearly 70 years, many locals have memories of NGH that date back decades — having grown up coming to visit with parents and grandparents,” Hoya says. “We have a lot of support from our patrons, neighbors, suppliers and industry partners, and it’s been amazing to see.”
Support also poured out for the IGC’s ‘Survivor Sale’ Nov. 8-11, where customers could shop a garage/sidewalk sale for plants and hard goods that made it through the storm. “It was a huge success that far exceeded expectations, and every dollar raised will provide important operating funds during our rebuilding,” Hoya says.
Keeping its holiday sale tradition alive, the garden center found a 5-acre property to set up with tents and temporary greenhouses to host its longstanding annual sale of Christmas trees, poinsettias and other holiday items. The holiday shop will open Monday with hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
“The whole team is working together to get us set up and ready for our temporary holiday operations, and our patrons are really excited about it,” Hoya says.
