The Blackmore Company has developed a plastic-free retail solution called Plant-It-Friendly in an effort to help reduce the amount of horticultural plastic the industry uses.
The company said its Plant-It-Friendly retail sleeve is 95% plastic-free, with a 100% plastic-free version coming soon, with no need for plastic pots or tags.
Blackmore said Plant-It-Friendly "reduces cost, labor and carbon footprint while automating packing of plants (and) printing of tags & labels. It also increases the dollar per square foot in retail as well as profits for growers and retailers."
The retail sleeve is UV-resistant to prevent fading and can withstand up to 15 weeks on the shelf. A padlock design makes it easy to open and close, which gives it the ability to drain like any ordinary pot.
The Plant-It-Friendly program is part of Blackmore's Air Trays, which are compatible with the company's Air Tray Racks and feature air root pruning, automation compatibility and faster transplanting.
