CARLSTADT, N.J. – Pantone LLC has revealed the Color of the Year for 2013. Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, described as a “lively, radiant, lush green” took the crown.
“Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”
For most, “emerald” is associated with the precious gemstone. But the color also symbolizes beauty, new life, growth, renewal and prosperity in many cultures.
Peaches, pinks, roses, ruby reds and aubergines complement emerald, according to Pantone, whether they are combined to dress a mannequin in a clothing store or create a garden center display.
Consumers will be encouraged to use the bold yet classic color for accent walls, towels and even nail polish. Garden centers can try using the color for pots, work gloves, boots, bouquets and more.
