McKay Nursery is debuting the Great Plains Silky Dogwood (Cornus amomum ‘McKSilky’), which was discovered by nursery staff.
The Great Plains Silky Dogwood maintains a compact size, making it ideal for modern landscapes where space may be limited. This shrub grows to a manageable size of 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide, making it perfect for borders, pollinator gardens or as a foundation planting. It can be planted in full sun to partial shade.
This compact, pollinator-friendly shrub offers seasonal versatility. In spring, creamy white blooms adorn the shrub, which attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. As the weather cools in fall, the foliage bursts into a fiery palette of oranges and reds. After the leaves fall in winter, its smooth, subtle stems add texture and interest to the winter landscape.
As a nativar, the Great Plains Silky Dogwood provides excellent support for local wildlife of the Great Plains region, with versatility in its native growing zones of 4 to 8.
"At McKay Nursery Company, we pride ourselves on offering plants that excite gardeners and elevate their outdoor spaces. The Great Plains Silky Dogwood is a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability," said McKay Nursery Company President Kurt Popp. "We can’t wait to see how this compact dogwood transforms landscapes across the region."
The Great Plains Silky Dogwood is now available for preorder through McKay Nursery Company’s website and through its wholesale team. It will be available at its two Wisconsin garden centers this spring.
