Linder’s Greenhouse and Garden Center in St. Paul, Minn., is celebrating its 100th anniversary, TwinCities.com reported.
Founder Albert Linder, a Swiss immigrant, bought a small farm in St. Paul in 1910, and sold celery stalks from horse-drawn wagons to Chinese restaurants.
Today, his grandchildren peddle celery plants — among the 25 million plants they sell each year. Linder's Greenhouse and Garden Center has spread to 62 acres and employs 1,200 people, including seasonal workers.
"We've come a long way since the celery days," said Albert's granddaughter, Lill Linder, who owns the business with brother Dave.
