Intelilinx, Inc., a digital marketing and technology company serving the green industry, has announced the launch of an e-commerce service for nurseries and independent garden centers. In addition to the opportunity that exists in e-commerce, COVID-19 has made it all but a requirement as consumers practice social distancing. Ashley Breeden, SVP of business development at Intelilinx, feels this trend is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

“People were already going online for their purchases. Now, it is the only option for many. Following the science, we feel social distancing will be in effect for a long time to come. A recent Harvard study indicated intermittent social distancing until 2022. Even when these requirements relax, we expect people to be wary of visiting brick and mortar locations.”

The green industry must adapt to this new world and this new way of conducting business. Breeden said that the outlook remains optimistic as a crop of consumer startups have been created around online plant retail.

“We have observed the strong emergence of plant-based online retail along with the growing millennial market segment. Companies such as Bloomscape and The Sill are selling a lot of plants to millennials, a generation that is earth conscious and is looking for accessible and convenient gardening solutions. With quarantine, people have become more focused on their yards and gardens and a large number are showing interest in growing their own food.”

The team at Intelilinx feels the market for online plant sales is strong and has designed an e-commerce solution that allows garden centers and nurseries to quickly and nimbly bring e-commerce into their operations. Breeden said this is critical in allowing companies to not only take advantage of peak seasonal traffic but also salvage losses that may result from decreased in-store purchases because of social distancing.

“We help garden centers with a turnkey solution, from the design and build of their e-commerce platform to establishing a marketing program that drives and converts traffic to monetize the site. When needed, we also help with the logistics and fulfillment challenges that garden centers may face. The solution is suitable for both direct-to-consumer and B2B wholesale companies,” said Breeden.

In fact, the company indicates B2B e-commerce is extremely under-utilized in the green industry.

“We have a cutting-edge marketing solution for B2B companies in the green industry. B2B e-commerce is growing considerably across verticals outside of the green industry and is a big opportunity for wholesale nurseries and suppliers to offer a far more convenient and better customer experience to their IGCs, landscapers and other business clients,” said Breeden.
