In many parts of the country, drought can deal you a crippling blow. The Garden Center in San Antionio, Texas, has found a way to fire a pre-emptive strike.
"Drought can be a big problem in our area," said owner Wayne Harrell. "To promote water-wise irrigation in the summer we have a 'Conservation Corner,' where we merchandise water wands, soaker hoses, tree gators, etc. During some of our hot, dry summers we use it as a sales opportunity, and place the water conservation stuff on sale."
This move has helped The Garden Center emerge as the "drought expert" in the region. Given that customers love to do business with experts, we're going to go out on a limb and say Harrell and Co. have reaped benefits just by being proactive.
Oh, and those benefits ... they're spelled "Cha-ching!"
