Cha-ching (4-16)

Tagawa Gardens in Centennial, Colo., one of the nation’s largest garden centers and a leader in the retail gardening industry, has begun introducing customers with smart phones to on-line gardening video tips. This feature to help educate future gardeners was introduced when the garden center opened its doors for the 2012 gardening season.

When shopping for plants, the customer simply shoots the QR code with his/her smart phone, which will take them directly to the appropriate video tip, be it pruning trees, transplanting trees, growing tomatoes, the care of houseplants -- just about anything the customer would need help with.

Tagawa produced all the videos on site in its greenhouses, giving a personal touch to the service, which could produce a bunch of "Cha-ching!" once techno-savvy customers start using the system -- and telling others about it.
