AMAZONAS Plum Cockatoo Petunia
New for 2024 is the Amazonas Plum Cockatoo, a unique ruffled petunia that adds an interesting element to combinations. Lush, green hues pair with vivid, tropical purples to create a truly unique petunia. This unique variety brings a calming backdrop of natural color that pairs well with foliage plants in the garden.
Its thick, green-edged blooms make it sturdier and more tolerant to rain, said Lisa Heredia, marketing and sales, NA.
The compact habit grows to 12-14 inches tall and 14-18 inches wide. It’s early flowering with large flowers that bloom early enough for any market.
Foliage fanaticism
Danziger’s new Floresta foliage program debuted this year, with many CAST visitors getting their first look at some of the 150+ varieties available from the breeder’s Guatemala production facility.
Lisa Heredia, North America marketing and key accounts, Danziger says this program’s under-cover production “provides a new standard in foliage and vastly improves consistency and health” of the plants compared to ones that have typically been grown outdoors and under shade cloth.
Crops in the Floresta program include peperomia, philodendron, pothos and dieffenbachia.
Recent expansion at Danziger Guatemala brings the total greenhouse area to 25 acres, and staff at the Nueva-Santa Rosa facility has also expanded with more employees specializing in foliage production.
