AmericanHort is accepting applications for students to join its HortScholars program at Cultivate'25.

HortScholars get the chance to network with industry leaders, give a 5-minute presentation on a topic of their choice, explore job and internship opportunities and receive mentorship. They will also receive an all-access pass to Cultivate’25, complimentary lodging and meals and a one-year AmericanHort student membership.

Eligible students are those currently studying at any North American institution pursuing degrees or certificates in ornamental horticulture, floriculture or related fields in an undergraduate, graduate or 2-year program.

Scholars are selected based on their academic achievements, passion for horticulture and potential to contribute to the industry. A review committee will evaluate applications, looking for strong candidates who demonstrate leadership, initiative and a commitment to their studies. The review committee includes volunteer members of the AmericanHort GenerationNext Community, as well as association staff. Typically, six students are selected each year.

Applications are due by Jan. 31, 2025, and must include a resume, two letters of recommendation and the completed application form and open-ended questions.

Finalists will be notified March 7, 2025, and will be asked to submit a 1-minute video answering a final question posed by the selection committee.

HortScholars will be notified in April and will be in Columbus July 8-15, 2025, to volunteer with set-up and decorations prior to participating in the event. Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Columbus.
