2023 CAST preview: Westhoff & PAC-Elsner

Preview introductions from the international breeder at the 2023 California Spring Trials.

Flowers with orange and yellow centers and thick white edges.

Notable new varieties to be introduced at CAST 2023 by Westhoff and PAC-Elsner:

Adding a bit more novelty to the traditional colors of the Calibrachoa Calitastic series, Cappuccino has the same large early flowers and mounding habit as its series companions, but with a warm, rich color that is perfect for any container or in combinations.

The new Hotpot Lobelia series has all of the amazing attributes of the Hot breeding program, but now in a smaller, early flowering form, making it perfect for nearly PGR-free production for small pots. In conjunction with the original Hot series and the recently introduced Hot+ series, Westhoff can offer a lobelia solution for all growers.

Helianthus Sunmazing Yellow is a breakthrough in sunflower breeding. Not only are plants heavily branching, heat and drought tolerant, but they continuously rebloom all summer long. Large plants are ideal for a late spring/early summer patio planter, or even better, planted in the landscape where they are covered in blooms all season long.

PAC-Elsner

A new punch of color from the PAC-Elsner’s geranium program is Pelargonium Aristo Bright Red, an intense new color that is sure to turn heads in the greenhouse and the garden center.

The Pelargonium Darko series from PAC-Elsner is known for its deep, dark green foliage and enhanced heat tolerance. Now comes a big step forward in the most popular color in geraniums: True Red. True Red lives up to its name on compact plants with superior branching, making it perfect for small pots or hanging baskets.
