Vibrant selections from Walters Gardens

1. HEUCHERA PRIMO ‘BLACK PEARL’ PPAF

When you know you have something good, you want to show it off to everyone. That’s how you’ll feel when you grow ‘Black Pearl’, the darkest black Heuchera on the market with the quickest turn time. ‘Black Pearl’ has incredibly glossy, jet black, scalloped leaves that you’ll immediately recognize from a distance away. The vigorous Heuchera villosa hybrid will quickly fill out a pot (outpacing your other Heuchera). The dark hues are the perfect complement to other color combinations for shade. Zones 4-9.

2. HEUCHERELLA FUN AND GAMES® ‘HOPSCOTCH’ PPAF

The FUN AND GAMES® collection of Heucherella is expanding! ‘Hopscotch’ is one of two new additions to the fun series of shade perennials. Heucherella has notoriously received a bad rap for not being a vigorous grower, but ‘Hopscotch’ refutes that reputation. Because of its Heuchera villosa parentage, ‘Hopscotch’ quickly forms a robust clump of bronze red, dissected leaves. The most vibrant color will be in spring, as in summer the leaves transition to deep green. Don’t miss its redder companion, ‘Red Rover’! Zones 4-9.

3. DIANTHUS ‘PAINT THE TOWN MAGENTA’ PPAF

Looking for a groundcover that’s colorful and also does well in extreme heat and humidity? Look no further than the new Dianthus from Walters Gardens/Proven Winners. ‘Paint the Town Magenta’ has single vibrant magenta pink flowers and incredibly serrated petals. The vibrant color bursts from the ground and reblooms sporadically over the summer. When it is past peak, enjoy its glaucous blue foliage. Zones 4-9.

4. BUDDLEIA MONARCH® ‘PRINCE CHARMING’ PPAF

A color break for Buddleia! Typically, the “red” range for Buddleia is closer to magenta-purple or light pink, but ‘Prince Charming’ takes vibrant to a whole new level. Cerise pink flowers cover the entire upright, gumdrop-shaped habit of this beautiful shrub. The MONARCH® Collection of Butterfly Bush is a play on words, both referencing their “royal” presence in the garden and also alluding to the fact that these shrubs are Monarch butterfly magnets. Zones 5-10.
