Few times of year carry the same significance for U.S. retailers as Black Friday and the weekend following Thanksgiving. The day following the major autumn holiday has been a major shopping day for many years, but the spirit of Black Friday bargains has crept into Thanksgiving itself, as well as the rest of the holiday weekend and the following “Cyber Monday.” But how much shopping do Americans actually do over the highly anticipated retail weekend? This year, the National Retail Federation, First Data and AdWeek analyzed spending patterns among consumers who took part.
