Women love social media, men like it
Women ages 35 to 65 are the primary demographic for most independent garden centers, and a new study shows it’s not too hard to find them online. Women use Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter more often than men, according to a Pew Research study of about 1,800 adults who participated in telephone interviews.
The findings revealed that:
- 76 percent of women in the U.S. use Facebook, the most popular social media site by far, compared to 66 percent of men.
- Women dominate the photo, craft and recipe sharing platform Pinterest, as 33 percent say they use the social media site compared to only 8 percent of men.
- Ladies share more Instagrams, too. 20 percent are on the photo sharing website compared to 15 percent of men.
- Women and men tweeted nearly the same amount in 2013 – 18 percent of women and 17 percent of men said they use Twitter.
- Pew also found that more U.S. adults used all of the social media sites in 2013 compared to 2012, with Pinterest accounting for the largest growth at 6 percent.
