California Spring Trials

A ‘wacky’ petunia

During the 2016 California Spring Trials, Garden Center magazine produced videos of our conversations with trialing growers and breeders about their new varieties. Our look at the Frisky Purple variety in the Crazytunia series by Westhoff was one of the most popular videos on our site after it was posted.

What’s trending on Instagram

Every year, California Spring Trials gives the horticultural industry an early look at the hottest new varieties hitting the market in the coming season. Participants on the tour are treated to some of the most stunning plants, display gardens and views on the West Coast, with no shortage of “Instagram-able” moments to be shared with followers, colleagues and peers. One of the many Instagram pictures taken throughout the tour was this shot of hanging baskets featuring Supertunia Vista Bubblegum at the Proven Winners display garden, taken by Spring Trials attendee Daniel Cintra.
