
The Behnke Nurseries Co. in Beltsville, Maryland, announced it will be closing its doors sometime in June after 89 years in business at its current location.
The company posted the following message on its website from Stephanie Fleming, vice president of Behnke Nurseries:
“As I look out over the garden center, it seems like a spring season like all the others through our 89-year history. I see a nursery full of beautiful plants and fine staff, some of whom have worked here
“But with great sadness, I must tell you that this 2019 spring season will be our last. My family has been discussing what to do with our aging property and, for many reasons, the ultimate decision was to close the nursery.
“The Behnke family and I would like to thank our wonderful customers. For three generations, our family has served your family. Many of you came here as children with your parents or grandparents. Others are new-found friends. Through the dedication of thousands of amazing employees over the years, we’ve helped make your gardening dreams a reality. In the process, it made us one of the largest and most well-known garden centers in the country.
